Hehe, this is a little something for a new friend of mine (and a great friend too ^^)
Well, I wanted to try to practice my eyes... and my shading skills, and what better character to pick as example as Denzel? He's just such a nice folf :3 And his eyes are the awesomests I've ever seen XD So here we see a curious, an angry, a sad and a happy Denzel ^^ (I like how well the sad one came out ^^ the little tear hints make my eyes wet XD)
Well, I'm VERY proud of my shading on this pic, and thanks to Wolfywetfurr I managed to succeed it. If he hadn't taught me how to make the shading degrading I couldn't have done it X3
So, I hope you'll like it buddy, you're such a nice person ^^ You deserve every gifts of the world
P.S. If you read up to here, I want critiques on the shading parts XD Not simply "Awesome shading" or "Nice" XD I want tips to improve and get better ^^ So anything that you see I need to change, maybe give me a little critique on how I could improve ^^ And that goes for you too Wolftrail Your shading is awesome X3
Oh and Wolftrail, just because I'm really not sure about it, did I get the colors, the marks and everything right on Denzel? X3 I looked at your pics of him, but I still want to make sure I drew him correctly
I see a Definite improvement over your previous submissions. Your description also places a notion to the effort you invested into this piece. This looks like it was styled for Manga, however I see a few bits and pieces that tell me you were going for realism. Every bit of me wants to ask what application you used to make this since this quality can still easily be obtained using MS paint, however I'm still not sure. I would suggest placing Special markings like the black spot on the snout in a separate layer giving it some smudging to smooth out the detail, in addition to avoiding the color black altogether. Black Sucks the life out of everything around it, and focus' the viewers eyes to that specific spot. It's the equivalent of Typing in Bold. It's nice to enforce a certain part, but put it everywhere and the reader's eyes will start to hurt. The closest I slide with it is 30 Red, 30 Blue, and 30 Green. Trust me, It's black enough. Same goes for White. Except you can go up to 230 safely. The Separate Layer is for when you decide later that it looks like ass. Everything you did behind the layer is still perfectly untouched, and easily worked with. Whiskers are a pain in the ass to work with. Either have a natural Gift for them, Consult a tutorial on them, or don't touch them. Whiskers come in 2 main varieties, which are crap, and amazing. Blotch ~screwbald has the traditional Amazing, and Zakka *Yellow-eyes has the digital Amazing. I don't think I need to stay on that subject anymore. (To any others reading; He asked for a critique.) Now lets move to your employed shading. It is quite decent. Some tutorial's could very well improve this further. The shading is, however, not the best thing improved here. Yes I am aware this piece has the first bit of shading to grace your gallery, but your understanding of canine anthropomorphic anatomy has most definitely improved, and this is what compelled me to comment. These sets of Mug shots are the best things you've created. And I'm sure they've taught you much.

I really wonder how they keep making Seedless grapes.
Wow, thanks for the critique... I'll try to answer correctly for everything you just said, so here I go.
Thanks for saying I've improved, I did put much effort in it indeed (Though I think I rushed the happy panel's shading since I was eager to finish it ) Well, you know how I like manga, so it probably was meant to be XD But the shading I was trying for realism, since Manga only has three layers of color (Normal, lighted and darkened). I used OpenCanvas to draw this, if I had done it on MS Paint, it would have been more horrible than that I'm affraid, I just tried someday, not shading, but just flat coloring something grey on OC, then doing the same on MS paint. The one on OC I couldn't say how, but it looked better... maybe because MS Paint's lines look so pixelized, OC look smoother for that.
For the separate layer, well I did put the black spot on his snout on the same layer as everything that is pure black, separated to the one with the colors. But yeah, I'll try your thing about 30 of each color on it, I didn't think the black taking too much attention thingy.
As for whiskers, I just add them like that, I will improve over them, I know mines are not good, but I still like how I did them. And since Denzel, the character I used, is drawn with whiskers I felt like I had to draw him some.
Thanks, next time I try to shade a picture, I will search for some tutorial, the fact I made it decent enough made me confident I can shade better than a squished tomato under a train. And thank you again for the 4th time, I've drawn so many canines XD I just had to improve at some point didn't I?
Yes they did teach me a lot, I'm happy I've decided to spend time on doing them like I wanted them to, and I'm quite happy about it. I really hope I can do more like that often to get even better ^^
So thank you very much for the critique, it is really appreciated, and really constructive. You really do nice critique, some bits were telling me what was not correct without offending me and I'm really grateful for this. Thanks pal.

When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
